Dentist Danbury

Are you looking for a simple cost-effective way to transform minor imperfections in your smile? Dental bonding may be an excellent option if you have minor cosmetic dentistry issues or simply want an alternative to traditional silver fillings. We’re pleased to offer dental bonding in our Danbury, Connecticut dental office.

What is Bonding?

A tooth-colored resin, dental bonding repairs mildly chipped, discolored, or crooked teeth. In many cases, bonding is used to fill cavities in place of traditional silver fillings. Bonding improves the appearance of teeth while avoiding major dental procedures. A fraction of the cost of veneers or crowns, bonding is an excellent option for those who need minor cosmetic dental work.

Bonding Can Correct:

  • Cracked teeth
  • Chipped teeth
  • Tooth decay (alternative to silver fillings in some cases)
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Tooth shape

In addition, bonding can make teeth appear longer and protect tooth roots for patients with receding gum lines.

How it Works:

When it comes to the bonding process, we have great news: minimal prep work is required before you’re ready to show off your new smile. The procedure is so simple and gentle anesthesia is only necessary in rare cases.

Here’s what you can expect from a dental bonding placement:

First, we’ll gently roughen your tooth’s surface. The roughened surface allows the bonding agent to stick to your tooth. Next, we apply a conditioning liquid which helps the bonding material adhere to your tooth.

We then apply a resin (similar to putty) to your tooth. The resin is smoothed and molded into the correct shape for your tooth. Once the tooth is properly shaped, the dentist will harden the bonding with a special light. Finally, we’ll make any additional shaping tweaks and polish the tooth. In about 30-60 minutes, you’ll have a fresh, new smile.

Why Bonding?

  1. It’s simple! Bonding is one of the simplest and most cost-effective cosmetic dental procedures. As a result, many patients prefer bonding to correct cosmetic imperfections over more invasive procedures such as veneers or crowns.
  2. One step – Thanks to the simplicity of the process, most patients can complete treatment in just one office visit. No return trips or tedious follow-up is required.
  3. Minimal enamel removal. With more invasive cosmetic procedures, we often remove a significant portion of the enamel from a tooth. However, with bonding, a minimal amount of enamel removal is required.
  4. Anesthesia is rarely required. Since bonding is a painless process, anesthesia is rarely needed. The only exception is if treatment requires drilling (in the case of cavities) or the tooth damage is close to a nerve.

How Do I Care For My Bonding?

Care for your bonding is pretty straightforward – if you follow recommended care for your natural teeth, you’ll have no problems taking care of your dental bondings.

  1. The guidelines for care are simple:
  2. Brush twice daily and floss once daily
  3. Rinse with mouthwash
  4. Have regular dental cleanings and checkups

With proper care, your bondings should last around 10 years before requiring touch-ups or replacement.
